At Common Knowledge Technology, leadership means helping organizations understand how technology supports their long-term success. That perspective begins with President and Owner Peter Horewitch, whose career has been shaped by a lifelong interest in both technology and business.
A Passion for Technology from the Start
Peter’s interest in technology began early. Growing up, his father owned an independent insurance agency that relied on a “computer guy” to maintain the systems. Curious and eager to learn, Peter started following him around and eventually began helping manage the network himself. That hands-on exposure sparked a passion that would grow into a career spanning more than 30 years.
Leading with Strategy
Today, Peter leads Common Knowledge Technology, where he focuses on guiding the company’s vision and advising clients on long-term technology strategy. He provides vCIO services for select clients, helping organizations plan for the future while navigating challenges like cybersecurity, AI adoption, compliance, and risk management.
One of the things Peter enjoys most about his role is working at the intersection of technology and business, helping organizations adopt best practices and build strategies that look three to five years ahead.
A Career Built on Experience
Peter graduated from Drake University with a bachelor’s degree in Information Systems and Insurance and has held a variety of roles throughout his career. His experience includes helping develop international electronic data standards for workers’ compensation systems, serving on the ANSI EDI standards committee for HIPAA, and leading infrastructure expansion projects at the University of Kansas Medical Center.
Before founding Common Knowledge Technology, he worked as a Technology Research Manager at FrontRange Solutions and later as a Principal Consultant at All Covered, managing large technology projects. Today, he also shares his expertise as an Amazon best-selling author, advisor, and speaker on cybersecurity, compliance, and IT strategy.
Life Beyond Work
Outside the office, Peter enjoys poker and travel, and he once played in one of the smaller tournaments at the World Series of Poker. His favorite destination is Maui, Hawaii, and sushi tops the list when it comes to food.
Peter is also a fan of the sci-fi classic The Fifth Element and is currently watching The Last of Us, while waiting (like many fans) for the next season.
Through his leadership and decades of experience, Peter continues to help organizations think strategically about technology while building secure, resilient systems for the future.
